With Summer approaching fast, I can't help but to let my mind wander to those nostalgic moments of summer. Eating jelly beans on a picnic blanket with my daughter, resting in the hammock watching the sun shimmer through the leaves on the tree, and sinking my hands into the dirt of my garden. Summer often has a peaceful feeling to it, especially when I can simply enjoy and rest in the moment.
Take a moment to stop what you are doing. If you can go outside, I encourage you to go out, if not open a window. Close your eyes, inhale deeply, exhale and let go. Continue taking deep breaths in, and long exhales. With each exhale allow your body to relax into the moment. What do you smell? What do you hear? How does your body feel?
The Lord desires to give us rest, but when we move too fast, we can't recognize the restful moments right in front of us. Deep breathing is one way we can slow ourselves down. It's a way we can be in the moment and connect with the Lord. This week, try to be intentional about creating space to rest in the present moment with the Lord. If we listen to our bodies, they will tell us when and how we need to rest. So let your senses be on alert this week to what your body needs, and enjoy the practice of resting in the moment.
