From the time I was a kid, I have always had compassion for other kids. I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children in some way, but I didn't know how. Years ago I traveled to Thailand and was doing prayer ministry in a village in Chaing Rai. Our missionary partners had asked our group if we could make a stop at an orphanage to pray for a child. These children were well loved by the staff of this tiny orphanage, yet my heart broke for them. I wanted nothing more than to adopt all of the kids.
My heart continues to break for children. Not just the kids in Thailand and in orphanages, but for children in need of love. Everyone wants to be noticed, even when they don't, there is still a yearning to be known.
Jesus says, "I have compassion for these people." Mark 15:32
Compassion is more than feeling deeply for people, it's what moves us into action when we recognize our desire to help others in need. Who are "these people" for you? This week I encourage you to sit with this question. Slow down and ask Jesus to show you who "these people" are, and show you even just a small way that you can make a difference.
