This week I keep thinking about where joy shows up in my life. It may sound silly, but the memory that comes to me is not one memory, but it's many memories of the same experience. Driving in my car in the early evening hours when it's the perfect temperature, window down, and floating my hand outside in the wind. This is something I have done for many years. I have memories doing this as a kid, and then in high school, and even college. Now I share this moment with my kids overtime I put my hand outside the window to feel the wind against my skin. I can't tell you exactly what it is about this moment that brings me joy, because it's something I feel deep within me. It's also an experience where I feel most alive, and most in touch with the moment.
I wonder if my kids will remember these days, or if they will look upon this moment in time with joy the way I do. Joy is a funny thing. It sneaks up on me when I least expect it. It surprises me and reminds me of the beauty that is yet to come.
The apostle Paul shares this blessing, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." - Romans 15:13
I pray that each of us will experience joy this week. May we encounter something that stirs the joy deep in our souls so that it overflows in our lives and brings a smile to our faces. Amen.
