Choose What Gives You Life

This morning I pause and think about what choices I am making to care for myself and my wellbeing. When so many demands are put on us daily, it’s easy to let go of caring for ourselves. Speaking as a mom, I recognize when I put my kids needs before my own. I also recognize when I put my needs aside, and slowlyI fall into old habits when I am not constantly making the choice to care for myself.

When we come to yoga, we make a choice to set aside that time to be present with ourselves and with God. We set aside time to breathe, time to reflect, and time to relax. We may not have an hour everyday that we can give to a yoga practice, but we do have moments of time available to us, and we can choose how to fill our time.

This week I have been practicing the invitation to choose what I want to work on for 15 minute increments. Breaking down my choices and work into smaller time periods helps me to not get overwhelmed with the big picture, or the amount that I think I need to accomplish.

What are some of the choices you can make in your daily life that are healthy and life giving to your soul?

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 says, “I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Oh yes, he is life itself, a long time settled on the soil that God, your God promised to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Choose the things that bring life to your soul. Choose the ways you want to live so that you can embrace life itself, and the One who gives us life.
